Bogota - Monserrat

I visited this local dominant today, I can recommend it.

First, Ithought that it is only worth the view of Bogota, and I hesitated to pay the 14.000 for the round trip cable car ticket.

But up there, there is a lot more to see than the view, first of all its definitely one of the most romantic places I have seen in general. It is a very nice landscaping composition, where at the top of the steep hill there is ubicated a sanctuary with its surroundings, including stations of the cross.

All is rendered in the turn of the century (19/20) style, with the buildings evoking Gocar and Jurkovic carefully composed within an excellent and well-maintained park. There is an almost panoramic view with Bogota on one side and deserted forrested hills on the other. Thanks to the nature its also a good place for birdwatching.

I would suggest not to miss the Stations of the cross, as it is probably one of the most sweeping installations of this I have seen, and its quite short and convenient, too. The plastics depicting the 14 stations are decent, but it is the natural background (the park greenery plus the forrested hills) that makes them stand out. Actually, all stations but the last one are perfect, at the last one, you can see a large orientation sign right behind Jesus that navigates you to the cafeteria :) But, in general, these are the best stations of the cross I have seen so far - very esthetic.

All and all, its a good place for a rendez-vouz, it even has a two upscale restaurants if you have the money... And theres a bufet with cheap coffee and empanadas for us others. And, you can walk back and save 7000 for the ticket back.
